Umbrella Insurance - For When Life Sends You A Storm
If you have a lot to lose, you need an umbrella policy. Let me rephrase that...anyone with assets they don't want to lose will benefit from an umbrella policy. Here's why:
Today's society is extremely litigious, and therefore frivolous lawsuits are a dime a dozen. Anyone can sue you for any reason. If you are saving and investing your money, you have something to lose, and should consider an umbrella policy. Umbrella policies provide additional liability coverage above your auto and homeowners/renters insurance. In other words, an umbrella sits on top of your current auto and homeowners/renters policy liability limit. In addition to the obvious, an umbrella provides coverage for libel, slander, defamation of character and any rental properties you may own. Here are some examples of an Umbrella in action:
Your dog bites someone
Your neighbors child drowns in your pool
You blog and write something bad about a company and get sued for defamation
Your child gets in a fight at school, and injures another student
You chaperone a field trip and some gets injured or dies
You critically injure someone in an accident that is your fault
Your teenager drivers his friends to school and injures them in an accident
A neighbor slips on your steps and sues you
The list goes on and on. The point is that any one of these incidents could lead to a judgment against you that could be devastating to your finances. If protecting your assets and future earnings is of interest to you. I highly recommend an umbrella.
Until next time - Nicole
